WHAT:

..are you guys all about here?

This is an Advanced Rider Defensive Skills Training and Advanced Rider Defensive Skills Development for street motorcycle riding. This is not a racing organization, it is a chance for all riders to come and improve their skills. If you ride any street bike and YOU ARE INTERESTED IN BEING A BETTER RIDER(!) then this is for you. We will accept all kinds of street bikes as long as they are in good mechanical condition, have good tires, and aren’t leaking any fluids. We will accept all kinds of riders if they are willing to try to improve.

..will I do if this is my first time with you guys?

You MUST take the primary course (if you are extremely skilled, we still want you with us the first time; we make sure we're all on the same page, and if it's review for you, that's always good, and your input may be greatly valuable to a newer rider!). We talk about where to look and when, how to turn, where to put what parts of your body, etc. We do the drills in 3rd gear without braking so you work only on cornering properly, not how fast you can go. That way you can concentrate on the drill at hand, not on how hard you are braking or any other competitive distractions. At the end of the day you brake very hard and we try to give you crap about it (we try; sometimes you ABS/anti-dive guys throw us for a loop). It really is lots of fun! :)

..will I do if I've been with you guys at least once before?

The course is taught by yourself and your peers (guided by an instructor). In the morning, you meet, and discuss what qualities make a good (great!) rider. It could be things like braking, body position, steering, obstacle avoidance, looking ahead, or whatever defensive riding skills you need to improve on. You can have your on-track instructor follow you and comment on any areas you feel you need improvement on, or just your overall style and choices. You are trying to improve YOUR weak areas, not some one elses. The next time a car pulls out in front of you, you will know exactly what your bike can do, and you can and will avoid the car without pushing your bike into a crash.

..do I need to bring with me that day?

  • A Street Motorcycle
    • Including good tires, no leaking fluids, good mechanical function.
  • A You
    • Including leather jacket (or some "tough, armored" equivalent) and jeans (a full leather suit or some form of "tough pants" are preferred), gloves, boots, a DOT (or Snell) approved helmet, and a brain inside wanting to improve its riding skills!
  • Water/Food/Gatorade/Chairs
    • We typically have water for sale at the course, but bringing your own is an excellent idea as well. There is usually water in the training room (in a culligan cooler) as well.
    • You can bring your own lunch, or there are fast-food places like Subway, McDonalds, and Burger King a short drive away.

..should I do to my motorcycle to be ready?

  • Make sure your tires have great tread and are not many years old. I'd rather ride a crappy bike with awesome tires than an awesome bike with crappy tires. Traction is a great thing to have!
  • Turn your mirrors down. It doesn't matter who is behind you, all that matters is what's ahead.

..is available as far as running water/services?

Not much! :) There is usually a water cooler in the classroom, but there is no running water available to us. There are port-a-potties for restrooms.
